Pregnancy Yoga Blog :- Written by Sarah Rumble from Blossom Wellbeing
Pregnancy is a special time in a women’s life that should be treasured and honoured. This can be increasingly difficult in our modern lifestyle where demands and responsibilities do not stop to give any of us a rest. Unless, we make a bold stand to protect our time and attention by scheduling in some genuine quality time for yourself. Pregnancy Yoga offers you just that plus more.
Just as any Yoga class goes, the sessions differs from teacher to teacher. I can only speak from my own experience on how we deliver Pregnancy Yoga at Blossom Wellbeing. First and foremost we consider pregnancy yoga an precious opportunity for expecting Moms to connect to their bodies and connect to their baby. It is not a exercise class. It is a session for nourishing and caring for the expecting mom, with the understanding that this is directly nourishing and caring for baby.
No previous Yoga experience is needed, all expecting Moms from their second trimester are welcome. The main benefits of practicing pregnancy Yoga during your pregnancy is supporting your self-belief, meeting like-minded local moms, taking time out for yourself and making you a priority, learning various techniques to help manage stress and calm your nervous system, learn breathing techniques to help with labour and beyond, gentle and slow movement to ease tension in the body. Particularly during the later stages of pregnancy, there can be changes to your posture that can cause increased discomfort and difficulties moving. Pregnancy Yoga can help bring awareness to these changes, with awareness you can be more mindful how you move and support yourself by stretching in specific ways.
The environment is one that is design to instil peacefulness as soon as you walk in. With the music, candles and incense burning. Nestled in the countryside away from outside noises and distractions. All these details are important for creating a space that is welcoming and calming. Finally, a huge take away from pregnancy yoga is that it helps guide you to a place of inner knowing, trust and serenity. A place you can remember and connect back to whenever you need to. This remembering can help you find calm and support the production of oxytocin which is a vital hormone needed for labour.
